“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”
~ James 1:17
God, the Creator of this planet, (and all things outside of Earth): chose to create beauty for us that was “unnecessary” for functionality. Consider the sunset… and the varieties of color that the greatest painter cannot quite capture as our Creator paints the skies. What about the mountains in Colorado, and the eagles that catch fish in the lakes that are wrapped in white-capped crests? Or the starry nights in the clearest skies that allow the twinkling heavenly bodies to shimmer and shine? God chose to create these with such exquisite detail that we often gasp when these scenes come into our view!
“O Lord, how manifold are Your works!
In wisdom have You made them all;
the earth is full of Your creatures.
Here is the sea, great and wide,
which teems with creatures innumerable,
living things both small and great.”
~ Psalm 104:24-25
What if… every morning: we wake with an expectation to see God’s love throughout our day? If our eyes were open and eager to discover His blessings?
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”
The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
to the soul who seeks him.”
~ Lamentations 3:22-25
My grandfather used to take daily walks outdoors, and often said that God has placed so many sights, smells, and sounds outside that balance us, and how important it is to be immersed in nature… often. Have you noticed His choice of colors in the feathers of birds? The array of songs of each bird species? The way a blue sky with puffy white clouds can fill us with a childlike hope? These are all designed by our amazing God!
“But ask the beasts, and they will teach you;
the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you;
or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you;
and the fish of the sea will declare to you.
Who among all these does not know
that the hand of the Lord has done this?
In His hand is the life of every living thing
and the breath of all mankind.”
~ Job 12:7-10
As I have been working on a children’s book called “God’s Love Letters,” I love to imagine a world where children grow into adults who became experts at seeing His goodness; and a world where we (as adults) are experienced ambassadors of gratefulness to our Father.
We would all know God’s unwavering love (despite our circumstances) as we observe and praise His faithfulness!
“For the Lord is a great God,
and a great King above all gods.
In His hand are the depths of the earth;
the heights of the mountains are His also.
The sea is His, for He made it,
and His hands formed the dry land.
Oh come, let us worship and bow down;
let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
~ Psalm 95:3-6
