What picture comes to mind when you think of a hero? Your favorite character from Marvel? (Dr. Banner fan here). Firemen, policemen, military personnel? Perhaps a stranger who stands between danger and an innocent victim? I agree with all of those characterizations, and would like to add another set of heroes to the list.

For the past 2 years, our amazing children in Sacred Selections, Jr. have given their time and energy to help raise awareness for adoptees while raising donations to unite these precious souls with their forever families. Sacred Selections is a very honorable group dedicated to providing financial relief to Christian families who desperately hope to adopt a child. Because 100% of funds raised go toward legal costs of adoption, and adoption costs are high, we rely on hard working volunteers and open, generous hearts at each fundraising event.

Three weeks ago, we had a Sacred Selections event and had 16 “Heroes for children” signed up to work hard selling baked goods. Their selfless nature, courageous hearts, and generous spirits stole the spotlight for the evening. At one point, we had children emptying bags full of coins they had been saving into a glass donation jar. I had to kneel on the floor as a two year old hero shook his bag until the last coin fell into the jar. These hearts are being molded for serving others, without expecting anything in return.

Thank you, heroes! You have no idea how bright your lights are shining. Use your God-given gifts to serve the Lord and watch the world change for the better.

I don’t know about you, but I want to be more like these children.  Uninhibited, selfless, fearless, and ready… to jump in and be a hero.
