Have you ever been in a situation (planned or accidental) where you were in a well-lit room, and suddenly all of the light is taken away? So dark you can’t even see your hand waving in front of you? How did you feel? Did your hands instinctually reach out to the person next to you?
In life, when inexperience or doubt clouds your decision making, do you have a mentor or friend you immediately reach out to? If you are like me, you have at least one person in your life who fills this role. My mentors have influenced me so greatly that their words are still in my heart, even years after hearing them. These Godly role models are priceless. They are loved ones who pray for you, pray with you, and bind you closer to God than you were before.
What qualities do you look for in a mentor and guide? Is it self control? Unwavering faith in God? Is their speech full of grace and seasoned with salt (Colossians 4:6)?
Proverbs 31:26 describes a qualified mentor and friend:
“She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.”
Commit with me to become a Godly influence for others. Intentional or not, positive or negative, we leave a footprint wherever we go.
“For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds success in store for the upright, He is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for He guards the course of the just and protects the way of His faithful ones.”
Proverbs 2:6-8
Like our children love to sing:
“This little light of mine… I’m gonna let it shine!”
Beautiful words, Jenn.
I thank God for my guides.
