See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone.
Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come,
the cooing of doves is heard in our land. Song of Solomon 2:11-12
The Crocus – this year they had to push up out of snow, the first sign of spring in our yard! They make me sing for joy at the prospect of the end of winter, the beginning of spring!
How faithful is our God! Solomon recorded the words above about 3000 years ago – yet the sturdy flowers like Crocus and Daffodil still are harbingers of spring, as is the return of the songbirds. God, in His mercy, knows how discouraged we are after a long winter season and gives us brightly colored and audible clues of the season’s end!
Often, when we are in a ‘winter season’ of life – where we feel emotionally and spiritually cold and dead, we feel the same gifts from the Lord. A glimpse, something small but discernable, of what is coming ahead. A new season, a renewal season, where our souls will be thawed like the melting snows is in our forecast! If we are aware of our surroundings, of God’s gifts of beauty in His world, we will start to hope again. With His help, we can return to singing praises, in faith. And that faith is steadfastly rewarded by the King of Kings – as He brings us out of our ‘winter’ into a season of renewal and growth.
Dear friend, I pray that if you have been in a ‘long winter’ season, that you will look around for the things God is putting into your life to focus your heart on Him. As you start to sing to Him in faith, He will melt the ice in your heart, and you will blossom – like the Crocus.
May His blessings abound to you,
Gini
